Cook linguine according to package directions.
In large skillet, cook shrimp in enough water to cover the bottom of the pan. Remove shrimp from pan. Drain half of the water that remains.
Cook onions in water until soft, about 1 minute.
Deglaze with the wine. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Then reduce heat and simmer until thickened, about 7 minutes. Grated parmesan may be added directly to sauce or sprinkled on top of finished dish.

Notes
The \\"herbs\\" listed in the ingredients can be anything you want. The recipe this one is loosely based on recommended 1/8 c marjoram. I didn\\'t have any, so I used what smelled like it went with the sauce. Old Bay seasoning made a nice complement with the shrimp, as poultry seasoning would if you made this dish with chicken. Other ideas would be oregano, basil, rosemary, thyme, or nutmeg. Use your imagination -- this is a rich sauce and would be hard to ruin.
