Grilled All American Burgers

1 clove garlic minced, or 2 T finely chopped onion 2 T catsup 1 T steak sauce 1 T Worcestershire 1 tsp sugar 1 tsp oil 2 dashes Tabasco 1 tsp vinegar 1 lb ground beef 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper 4 buns 4 slices cheese 4 lettuce leaves 4 tomato slices 4 red onion slices 4 pickle slices

1. For sauce, combine garlic through vinegar in small saucepan. Bring to boil; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
2. Combine beef, salt and pepper. Mix well. Shape meat mixture into 4 3/4 inch thick patties.
3. Grill until no pink remains; brush frequently with sauce.
4. Split and toast the buns on the grill. Serve patties in buns with cheese and remaining toppings.

Make ahead tip: Prepare sauce and chill up to 24 hours. Prepare and shape burgers; cover with plastic wrap and chill up to 2 hours before grilling.
