1 lb. fresh green beans
3/4 c water
1/4 c rice vinegar
1/3 c brown sugar
1 T soy sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/8 tsp. powdered ginger
1 T cornstarch mixed with 1 T water
Description
Boil the green beans until just done but till a little snappy, about 4 minutes if fresh and thin and 6 minutes if thick. Rinse briefly so they stay warm; set aside.
Combine sauce ingredients (water to ginger) in saucepan. Cook over medium heat until bubbling. Drizzle in the cornstarch/water mixture, stirring constantly until thickened. Reduce heat and simmer about 10 minutes, until liquid is reduced and it is a rich, thick brown.
Toss freshly cooked beans with the sauce and serve.
